Field performance of progenies of Pinus radiata selected for resistance to Diplodia-associated shoot dieback

چکیده

Background: A severe outbreak of Diplodia-associated dieback Pinus radiata D.Don shoots in 1967 prompted a pilot programme selection for resistance to dieback. Plus trees were selected 1970 absence dieback, growth and tree form, seed collected. Methods: Twenty open-pollinated progenies plus two control lots field-tested on sites, assessed around 6.5 years after planting. Alternative measures shoot recorded, as dbhob scores form variables. Data analysed seedlot differences, heritability estimates various genetic correlations. Results: Dieback at one site allowed good resolution progeny whatever the measure. Remarkably, no response field was evident, unlike glasshouse inoculation trial. Nor did rankings correlate with those Between trial sites clear rank changes evident any trait. Conclusions: The disparity results from is unexplained, although role endophyte status postulated. Together non-recurrence past outbreaks, means that not promising.

Geographic isolation of Diplodia scrobiculata and its association with native Pinus radiata.

Diplodia pinea (syn. Sphaeropsis sapinea) is a well-known latent pathogen of Pinus spp. with a worldwide distribution. As such, this fungus is native where pines are endemic in the northern hemisphere and it has been introduced into all countries of the Southern Hemisphere where pines are exotic. The newly described D. scrobiculata (formerly known as the B morphotype of D. pinea) is thought to ...

Sources of Diplodia pinea endophytic infections in Pinus patula and P. radiata seedlings in South Africa

Diplodia pinea, an opportunistic and latent pathogen, can significantly affect Pinus productivity worldwide. Despite being studied in South Africa for almost 100 years, the source of D. pinea inoculum responsible for seedling infection is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the role of seed in vertical transmission of D. pinea and to investigate sources of inoculum leading to horizo...

Genomic of resistance for Fusarium circinatum in Pinus radiata

The pitch canker fungus Fusarium circinatum was first associated with mortality of P. radiata in California during the 1980s. Since then it has been dispersed to several countries of the Northern hemisphere together with South Africa and Chile in the southern hemisphere. In Chile the disease caused mortality of seedlings in P. radiata at nursery, and in South Africa the pathogen has already com...

Family and Clonal Variation in Susceptibility of Pinus Radiata to Agrobacterium Tumefaciens in Relation to in Vitro Shoot Growth Rate

This work was carried out to examine the hypothesis that differences mAgrobacterium tumefaciens susceptibility observed among Pinus radiata D.Don clones and families after stem inoculation in vitro can be attributed to differences in growth rate at the time of inoculation. Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain 542 was used to inoculate in vitro shoots of 90 clones divided among 14 full-sib P. radiat...
